Tasks & Responsibilities
We are looking for a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to join our Process Development team. In this hands-on role, you will play a critical part in advancing innovative chemical processes and supporting the supply of drug substances through high-quality experimental work, data generation, and collaboration with multidisciplinary project teams.
You will contribute directly to process development, scale-up activities, manufacturing support, and the implementation of cutting-edge technologies in a dynamic and scientifically driven environment.
- Execute laboratory experiments that directly influence chemical process development and manufacturing strategies.
- Generate, analyze, and communicate experimental data to support project teams and manufacturing sites.
- Contribute to process optimization, troubleshooting, and scale-up activities.
- Support innovative technology platforms such as Biocatalysis, Flow Chemistry, Process Analytical Technology (PAT), Surfactant-Based Chemistry, and Sustainable Process Development.
- Participate in the manufacture of small-scale non-GMP and GMP batches for innovative modalities, including ADCs and other advanced therapeutic platforms, as needed.
Laboratory & Process Development
- Perform chemical synthesis experiments safely, efficiently, and right-first-time in alignment with project objectives and timelines.
- Support process development activities through experimental execution, observation, and data collection.
- Collaborate closely with Process Chemists to design experiments, evaluate results, and propose next steps.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and compliant electronic laboratory records (eLN) and documentation according to Good Documentation Practices.
Manufacturing & Scale-Up Support
- Support pilot-scale and manufacturing campaigns through process familiarization, troubleshooting, yield optimization, and cycle-time prediction.
- Assist internal manufacturing teams and external partners with scale-up activities and process transfers.
- Participate in the production of small-scale GMP and non-GMP batches when required.
Safety, Compliance & Laboratory Operations
- Ensure full compliance with HSE, GxP, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Maintain assigned laboratory equipment, analytical instruments, and work areas in an operational, safe, and compliant state.
- Manage laboratory inventories and contribute to the sustainability and usability of laboratory infrastructure.
- Proactively identify, communicate, and address safety observations and operational risks.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work effectively with project leaders, analytical scientists, manufacturing teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
- Contribute to a collaborative, innovative, and solution-oriented team culture.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, technology platforms, and best-practice implementation.
- Mentor junior colleagues, apprentices, interns, and trainees as experience grows.
Must Haves
- Completed apprenticeship as a Laboratory Technician (Laborant/in) or equivalent scientific technical qualification.
- Practical experience in synthetic chemistry with a passion for laboratory work.
- Strong hands-on experience with chemical synthesis and process development activities.
- Experience supporting or participating in the scale-up of chemical reactions and processes.
- Excellent understanding of laboratory safety standards and HSE requirements.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills
- Experience working with standard synthesis and analytical equipment, such as:
- HPLC
- GC
- NMR
- EasyMax
- FlexyALR
- Other laboratory automation and analytical systems
- Language Skills
- German: Good working proficiency (required)
- English: Strong written and spoken proficiency (required)
